Let the long goodbye begin. This week is farewell week for Kathie Lee Gifford on "Live! With Regis and Kathie Lee," as the talk show co-host who shared her hairdos, hemlines and home life for the past 15 years says so long.

"It'll be happy and sad," promises show producer Michael Gelman. "We want to give Kathie Lee a fun and entertaining goodbye week. We also don't want to drive people crazy."

The shows will feature guest stars such as Diane Sawyer, Harrison Ford, Kenny Loggins, Sarah Jessica Parker, Lance Armstrong, Joan Rivers and Collin Raye. Regis Philbin will show a special Kathie Lee "moment" from their years together, and each day a different "mystery guest" will hide behind a screen.

On Thursday, videotaped goodbye wishes will run. And Friday's show will be highlights, with family and friends on hand, in what Gelman says will be "a party atmosphere."

Next Monday, the show's title will, of course, change, to "Live! With Regis." For the first Kathie Lee-less day, Joy Philbin, Regis' wife, will be the in the hot seat.

In the meantime, the hunt for a replacement continues, and guest hosts are booked through August. Gelman says he has 1,000 tapes from amateurs who want the job, and in September some will get to try out. The plan is to see who has the right chemistry.

"We're serious about letting this develop on air," Gelman says. "Regis is going to have fun with it, and the public will have fun with it."
